Cribworthy Registry Builder
Baby registry checklist builder: must-haves and newborn essentials
Four answers turn a generic baby registry checklist into yours: what to register for before baby arrives, what is nice to have, and what can wait. Every line with a product carries our pick from the category guide, at your budget.
Quick answer
Baby registry must-haves are the things you use from day one: somewhere to sleep, sheets and sleep sacks, bottles or a pump depending on how you plan to feed, diapers, wipes and a changing pad, a tub and baby wash, clothes, a stroller and, if you drive, an infant car seat. Pick your home, feeding plan, budget and whether you have a car, and the builder sorts 35 common registry items into before baby, nice to have and later, with our pick on every line that has one.

The full baby registry checklist
All 35 lines the builder can show, with the rule that decides when each one appears and our pick at each budget. Picks come from our category guides; a line with no catalog product links to a guide instead.
How the builder works
The list. 35 common registry items across nursery & sleep, feeding, diapering, bath & care, clothing, out & about, play & soothe, around the house. This is our editorial list, built from the categories we cover; it is not a medical or safety checklist. For questions about your baby's health, sleep or feeding, ask your pediatrician.
The answers. Each line has one rule, shown in the table above. Your home moves the crib, bassinet, monitor and baby gates between groups; your feeding plan adds or removes bottles, a sterilizer, formula, a pump and nursing items; no car moves the infant car seat to Nice to have and the carrier up to Before baby. Lines no answer applies to drop off the list.
The picks. Your budget chooses which of three products from the same category guide fills the line. Every pick is a product already reviewed on Cribworthy, not a new one, and a pick we have hidden from a category drops out here too. The running total adds the listed Amazon prices of the before-baby picks only; a listing whose price we cannot confirm right now shows no price and is not counted.
Share and print. Your answers and the lines you tick are saved in the page address, so the copied link opens the same list for a partner or a gift-giver. Nothing is uploaded: it all runs in your browser.
Common questions
What are the must-haves on a baby registry?
On the default list (a one-level house, feeding not decided yet, a car, mid-range budget) the before-baby lines are: crib, crib mattress, fitted crib sheets, swaddles and sleep sacks, baby monitor, bottles, burp cloths and bibs, diapers (newborn and size 1), wipes, diaper ointment, portable changing pad, diaper bag, baby bathtub, baby wash and shampoo, bodysuits, sleepers and socks, infant car seat, stroller. Change any answer above and the list re-sorts.
What should be on a newborn essentials list?
The same before-baby lines: sleep, feeding, diapering, bath, clothes and getting around. How many bodysuits and sleepers to buy is covered in our newborn essentials checklist, and the clothes size finder gives sizes by weight.
How many items should be on a baby registry?
There is no set number. This builder lists between 31 and 35 items depending on your answers, of which the before-baby group is the part to cover first.
What baby registry items can wait until later?
High chairs, baby gates, cabinet locks and furniture anchor straps sit in the Later group, which matches the 6–12 month stage on our stage checklists. Play mats, bouncers and pacifiers are in Nice to have.
Can I add these items to an Amazon baby registry?
Yes. Amazon's help page says you add an item from its product page with Add to Baby Registry under Add to Cart. Every pick here links to its Amazon listing. Amazon also gives registry owners a 15% completion discount, up to $300 off, starting 60 days before the arrival date you enter.
